Invitation: help inform voters about the dire threat of Project 2025 to our democracy and freedoms

The Stop Project 2025 website is part of the Klickitat County Democrats Letters to the Editor (LTE) voter outreach group; it focuses on informing readers about Project 2025. Stopping Project 2025, we believe, is critical to saving our democracy. Our information vehicle for you to use is this website: https://www.stop-project-2025.info. Please click on the website link to take a quick look before reading about how you can help. Professionally, I’m a fact/data-driven engineer and not likely to exaggerate or use hyperbole—the phrase “dire threat” is accurate. Please view this 14.5 minute DemocracyNow! video to learn why:

Help drive voter turnout with accurate information about Project 2025

Quick Start (click here)

We need to quickly inform as many voters as possible about the dire threat of Project 2025.  If you live in a “swing state”, your help reaching as many voters as possible is urgently needed, as Election Day, November 5th isn’t far away. You can help inform voters with the information they need to help protect our democracy.

Although the major news outlets such as CNN and MSNBC are doing a great job of informing left-leaning and moderate viewers about Project 2025, the LTE voter outreach is focused primarily on people who are disinformed by Fox News, Newsmax, or other right-wing media outlets. For these readers, the number of people per county we motivate to vote Democratic may be small, but we all know that wins or losses occur with very narrow margins, especially in “swing states”.   In other words, every little bit can help! or should I say, every single vote makes a difference!

We must motivate people—regardless of party affiliation—to vote for Democrats, state and federal, up and down ballot. Saving our democracy is not a partisan issue: Our audience includes Republican and Independent “never-Trumpers;” “on-the-fencers;” “Haley orphans;” and uninformed, apathetic or single-issue voters, both Democrats and Republicans—many of whom might not feel motivated to vote if they don’t understand what’s at stake.

Here are ways to get started

Here’s how you can help accelerate this voter outreach and information effort.

1. If you represent a group, we recommend assigning a facilitator – you, the Chair, and/or a volunteer. Then you or the facilitator subscribe for free to our website resource, “Stop Project 2025,” here:

When we publish a new post on the Stop Project 2025 site, the facilitator will be notified automatically by email.

2. You or the facilitator can then take one of several actions to share the regularly updated resource information:

a. Include the link to Stop Project 2025 or to a specific post (see How to Use menu on the website) in your county Democrats newsletter. Encourage recipients to repost website posts on Facebook or other social media sites, or to send an email to friends or other organizations. You can also suggest that volunteers who are canvassing door-to-door print out and share some of these posts.

b. Include the link to the Stop Project 2025 website on your website.

c. Start a local group of LTE writers to submit their letters to the editors of their local news outlets, newsletters, or even their city chamber of commerce. Encourage writers to use this website’s content and LTE RESOURCES, as a research resource to support and speed their letter writing.

d. Select specific posts from the Stop Project 2025 website, and then submit them to local newspapers, etc., under your name or a nom de plume, for example, “a concerned citizen.” This would not be plagiarism, because our writers have permitted use of their content in this way.  Furthermore, the website content is licensed under Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (Public Domain). After all, we share the same goal, so we’re making our work available to you to help achieve that goal.

These are just thought-starters; you will likely have other great ideas about how to put these resources to work to get out the vote.

What you can expect to see in the coming days through November 5th

On July 21, 2024, the Stop Project 2025 site was initiated with general information and LTE RESOURCES about Project 2025. Now, we’ll begin writing about specifics, in a format we have nicknamed “bomblets”—200 word pieces that can be published in “Letters to the Editor” sections in county newspapers across the US. Why 200 words? Because newspapers, even online, tend to limit LTEs to 200-350 words.  Our challenge—which we are meeting—is to produce substantive LTEs that are the written equivalent of easily understood “sound bites” (“bomblets”) and highlight one Project 2025 section issue per LTE.

For longer essays posted on this site, you are welcome to select pertinent content to include in a short essay you write.

Our LTE group will write frequently about specific sections of the Project 2025 plan. Our 200-word LTE format will include a bitly link to the Project 2025 ~950-page document; the Plan page-number(s); a brief section-summary;  and a brief description of the specific section’s impact on Americans.  As one example of many, future LTEs will zero in on Project 2025’s objective to shut down the EPA and NOAA, because, as the Heritage Foundation claims, it exacerbates “climate change hysteria.”

More information about this LTE effort

Rick George, Chair of the Klickitat County Democrats, Washington state, organized the Letters to the Editor (LTE) voter outreach group last February 2024.  By writing letters to the editors of all Klickitat County, WA news outlets, published both online and in newspapers, the LTE group provides factual information to readers who are either uninformed or disinformed by Fox News, Newsmax, and other disinformation outlets.

The group’s general focus is to provide factual information about the many major successes of the Biden Administration and VPOTUS Harris’ strengths and accomplishments; Trump’s outright lies, grifts, and criminal convictions; and the potential impact to all Americans of Project 2025, should it be implemented.

Rick’s brilliant idea could be expanded nationwide. Some 180 million registered voters need to be alerted, informed, and motivated to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot. And while our Klickitat Democrats LTE group’s reach is around 30,000 readers/voters per month, that represents only 0.017% of all registered US voters. Sadly, our work is a mere drop in the national ocean of disinformation. (Although we’re encouraged that the major corporate media networks are finally sounding the alarm about Project 2025, especially MSNBC’s ReidOut Project 2025 series.)

We would like to reach more voters by replicating Rick’s LTE outreach idea, working with Chairs of county Democrats, and/or enlisting the help of individual volunteers in every county in the nation. We hope you will join us.

We want to put our efforts behind stopping Project 2025, saving our democracy, and motivating people regardless of party to vote for Democrats, state and federal, up and down the ballot, for the good of ALL Americans

Sincerely,

Steve Heitmann and Sue Kusch
